Introduction to Engineering

Unit Description

ITB introduces students to theoretical and practical topics involving sheetmetal work, fitting & fabrication, and machining.  Students manufacture a variety of articles whilst developing manual dexterity, manipulative skills, problem solving skills and responsible attitudes.  Students enrolled in this subject will be automatically enrolled in Certificate 1 in Manufacturing (Pathways) MSA10107which is base level entry into Manufacturing industries. Students must successfully complete the seven competencies to achieve the certificate.

Project work includes:

·        Drill gauge

·        Tack hammer

·        Sheetmetal cabinet

·        Soldering exercises

Theory

Theory is imparted through general discussion in the classroom centred around the projects, tools and processes and completion of this booklet.
